About us
Our Community Rail Partnership
The Community Train CRP is a new Community Rail Partnership for southwest London. We operate in the Royal Borough of Kingston and London Borough of Merton (at least, that’s where we’re starting but in the future, who knows?).
We currently cover seven stations served by South Western Railway from London Waterloo.
Through the CRP we would like to breathe life into our railway stations, turning them into playful and joyful spaces that celebrate the creativity and diversity of our communities, fostering connections, reclaiming public spaces, and inspiring a shared sense of ownership and pride.
Our overarching objectives are aligned with those of Community rail network:
-
Connecting Communities and Railways: Through projects and events that brighten and animate stations and surrounding areas, we bridge the gap between communities and their local railway stations. By transforming these spaces, we make the railway not just a means of arrival and departure but a cornerstone of community connection and pride.
-
Inspiring Sustainable and Healthy Travel: By activating railway stations as welcoming and engaging spaces, we highlight their role as eco-friendly, accessible transport hubs. Through creative initiatives, we encourage walking and cycling to and from stations, fostering well-being and environmental stewardship.
-
Community Development and Social Inclusion: We use the railway station as a hub to bring people together, celebrating diversity and creating opportunities for everyone to contribute. Activities at our stations focus on breaking down barriers and building connections, making public spaces feel safe and inclusive.
-
Promoting Local Identity and Heritage: Through art, storytelling, and performances, we reflect the rich history and culture of our communities in the design and use of railway stations. These spaces become living testaments to local creativity and heritage.
-
Encouraging Collaboration and Empowerment: We work collaboratively with local organisations, artists, businesses, and residents to transform railway stations into shared spaces of empowerment and engagement. These partnerships ensure the longevity and community ownership of our projects.
-
Enhancing Well-being and Resilience: By fostering a sense of belonging and providing spaces for positive interactions, our initiatives improve mental health and social cohesion. A thriving station is a symbol of a thriving, resilient community.
By working hand-in-hand with the Community Rail Network, we embody a shared vision: transforming our railways into thriving, inclusive spaces that celebrate sustainable travel, spark community connections, and breathe new life into public areas. Together, we’re building a future where railways aren’t just for getting from A to B, they’re the heart of a more connected, creative, and caring society.
